Misclassified Oracle Corp. Employees to Receive $35 Million in Back Wages

More than 1,700 employees of the Oracle Corp. will be receiving $35 million in back wages for unpaid overtime.
Two Oracle office locations – one in Redwood City, CA and the other in Pleasanton, CA – were named in a 2007 lawsuit, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. It is projected that the 1,725 current and former employees, including those from PeopleSoft, Inc., will be receiving approximately $13,000 each.
A U.S. Department of Labor investigation found that quality assurance workers, technical analysts, and project managers were all misclassified under the administrative or computer exemptions under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Oracle has since changed its exemption policies, in order to adhere to the FLSA rules.
Those who work in the computer and software industry are often misclassified, which is why it is imperative to learn your rights if you are told by your employer that you are exempt from overtime under the FLSA.
Let the lawyers at Kennedy Hodges, LLP help you learn the FLSA rules by ordering your free copy of their book, The Ten Biggest Mistakes That Can Hurt Your Wage and Overtime Claim. Call 888.449.2068 or fill out our online form for your free copy, or to schedule a complimentary case evaluation.
