A Fayetteville, Georgia restaurant was ordered to pay back $104,000 to 230 workers after it was discovered by the U.S. Department of Labor that they violated minimum wage, overtime, and record-keeping mandates set by the Fair Labor Standards Act.
According to The Atlanta Georgia-Constitutional, This Is It! BBQ and Seafood had violations at five locations, and were also found guilty of allowing those under 16 to work later than allowed by the federal government.
The employees were not receiving time and a half of their typical hourly rate for hours over 40 worked during the week. Others were not receiving minimum wage since the restaurant deducted the cost of uniforms from their paychecks.
There are strict guidelines set by the Fair Labor Standards Act when it comes to employing restaurant workers, and unfortunately there have many cases of employees in the food service industry who have fallen victim to unfair wage practices.
