Baristas Coffee Company, Home of Bikini Baristas, Sued by Dept. of Labor

Posted on Oct 26, 2011

Not only is the U.S. Department of Labor claiming that Seattle's Baristas Coffee Company failed to pay minimum wage and overtime pay to their bikini-wearing baristas, but the company is also under scrutiny for writing bad checks to their employees.

The Puget Sound Business Journal reports that the U.S. Labor Department is suing the company in the U.S. District Court for Western Washington for an unspecified amount.

Baristas was found to be in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act and assessed $42,000 for their violation.

Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, employers can only take the tip credit if their employees make at least federal minimum wage in tips and their hourly rate combined.

The coffee company has six locations in Washington and announced that they have plans to expand into Florida and Texas.
