If I work a holiday am I supposed to receive a bonus or premium pay?

A: It is common for many employers to pay a premium to employees who work on a holiday, but there is no requirement in the Fair Labor Standards Act for your employer to pay you extra. If you work a holiday or if your employer gives you paid time off for a holiday the rate is the same as your normal pay rate.

However, if you work more than 40 hours in a week you should receive overtime if you are a non-exempt employee. If you aren't sure, send us a contact form to ask our employment lawyers about your exemption status.
