I work on campus for a university. Am I supposed to be paid overtime?

A: If you work for a university courts have ruled that you are considered an employee like the rest of the work force. That means you are covered under the Fair Labor Standards Act and you should be paid at least minimum wage and an overtime premium of time-and-a-half on your regular rate of pay for any hours you work over 40 in a work week.

Universities are no different under the law: They are employers who must comply with federal wage and hour laws. You can contact our employment attorneys for a free case review.
