Workers stripped of wages file overtime lawsuit against 5 Massachusetts Topless clubs

Fair Labor Standards Act lawsuit claims exotic dancers, bartenders and DJs misclassified as independent contractors.

Employees of gentlemen's clubs have recently filed wage cases alleging their employers misclassified them as independent contractors in order to avoid paying minimum wage, overtime pay and standard benefits. But several courts have ruled that exotic dancers, waitresses and DJs at strip clubs are not automatically independent contractors. If you work in a strip club you could also be owed money for wage violations.

Case In Point

Five strip clubs in Massachusetts are brought to court over allegations that dancers, DJs, and bartenders were full-time employees and should have been compensated fairly under the wage laws with overtime and worker benefits.

The Springfield, MA clubs named in the lawsuit are:

  • Mardi Gras gentleman's club
  • Lace
  • Fifth Alarm and
  • Center Stage and
  • Anthony's Dance Club - South Hadley, MA

Case in Point

A Georgia federal judge ruled that a class of 80 current and former exotic dancers should be classified as employees, not independent contractors, by Galardi South Enterprises Consulting Inc., owners of Club Onyx in Atlanta. The decision held that an employee-employer relationship was formed with club owners under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
