Wage and hour red flags for New Jersey BP gas stations

BP wage and overtime practices

The U.S. Labor Department continues its investigations into wage and hour practices at numerous New Jersey gas stations. After initial findings, many of the businesses were found to be under the umbrella of BP Products North America.

BP got the message from the Labor Department and is now reviewing how their gas station employees are paid. Last year, the labor department managed to recover a wage and hour settlement for 295 New Jersey gas station workers after numerous investigations.

The investigations have raised red flags and the department states there is a widespread failure to follow wage and overtime requirements among the gas stations.

Some of the violations the Department of Labor found were:
  • Workers were paid below federal minimum wage,
  • Workers were paid straight time for overtime hours,
  • Workers were paid cash off the books.

BP sent a letter alerting its teams in New Jersey and New York to start pay practice reviews among the gas stations.
