Verizon Wireless unpaid overtime class-action lawsuit in California

Verizon Wireless local managers call on wage lawyers to file overtime lawsuit; FLSA lawsuit by California Verizon employees seeks class action status.

 

Verizon Wireless is named in a wage and overtime lawsuit that claims the company did not pay overtime to its first-level local managers in California for Verizon FiOS Group. The overtime lawsuit against Verizon claims that local managers were paid fixed salaries without overtime pay, a violation of California's labor laws.

Verizon allegedly required local managers to work more than 40 hours a week every month, but employees claim they were never paid for overtime. A former Verizon Communications Division staff manager supported the class-action motion with a court statement saying that:

• exempt status did not properly apply to the local level managers because they are "glorified clerks" and higher-level managers have the most decision-making control.

Verizon Wireless, doing business as Cellco Partnership, is the largest wireless service provider in the U.S. with 102 million subscribers. Verizon Wireless headquarters are in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
