Minimum wage updates under the Fair Labor Standards Act
For 2011, several states have announced minimum wage rate increases. The
Fair Labor Standards Act outlines the laws for federal minimum wage provisions. Many states also enact their own minimum wage laws, and in these cases employees are eligible to be paid the higher of the two wages.

Many states also update legislation for increases in minimum wage in accordance with rises in the Consumer Price Index and inflation.
Here is a list of some of the minimum wage increases and updates across the nation for 2011.
Minimum wage increases across the states:
Arizona -from $7.25 to $7.35 an hour. Minimum wage for tipped employees increases from $4.25 to $4.35
Montana -from $7.25 to $7.35 an hour
Ohio -from $7.30 to $7.40 an hour. Minimum wage for tipped employees increases from $3.65 to $3.70 an hour
Oregon -from $8.40 to $8.50 an hour
Vermont -from $8.06 to $8.15 an hour. Minimum wage for tipped employees increases from $3.91 to $3.95 an hour.
Washington -from $8.55 to $8.67 an hour. Washington law does not allow employers to take a tip credit against minimum wage for tipped employees.
Florida - Effective June 1, 2011, Florida's minimum wage will increase to $7.31 per hour.
Colorado - increased to $7.36 per hour on January 1, 2011. The tipped wage increased to $4.34 per hour.
Montana -The indexed minimum wage was increased 10 cents to $7.35 per hour on January 1, 2011
