Levi Strauss to Pay $1 Million in Back Overtime Wages

Over $1 Million in Back Wages Owed to Former Levi Strauss Employees; Retail Employees in Texas Are Not Required to Accept the Settlement by the DOL - You May be Entitled to More Money

Levi Strauss & Co. has agreed to pay over $1 million in overtime back wages to 596 employees across the nation after an investigation by the Department of Labor found the company violated the wage and hour laws of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The investigation revealed that Levi Strauss misclassified many workers as exempt from overtime pay, including assistant store managers.

The store managers had to work off-the-clock after closing and early morning openings. Many other Levi employees who had administrative duties were also misclassified as exempt and were owed back overtime wages.

The investigation also found payroll violations because Levi failed to keep accurate hours worked by employees in its payroll system.

The employees received back wages for a two-year time period. Levi Strauss owns 164 retail stores and employs more than 4,000 workers in the U.S., and its global operations include over 100 countries.

If you are a retail worker in Texas and feel you are being denied your wages, your best option is to contact an experienced employment attorney today. The federal overtime laws are clear, and most employees are entitled to overtime wages under the FLSA protections. If you are thinking about filing your claim with the Department of Labor, think again. They frequently settle suits for amounts much less than what they are worth.
