Many states tie the minimum wage to cost of living spikes, creating automatic yearly pay bumps. Several states have already announced their minimum wage hikes for 2012.
Colorado is among this group, with an expected increase of 28 cents to raise the minimum wage to $7.64. Washington's minimum wage will increase 37 cents to $9.04. Depending on where you live this means an extra $582 and $770 for full-time workers. See the full list of changes below.
Businesses sue, but courts rule wages must go up
The wage spikes aren't too popular with businesses nationwide and some groups sued to block the increases. But courts ruled against them and said that as part of state law the wage hikes have to be enacted.
