Houston taqueria violating Texas labor and wage laws

Houston taqueria serving up illegal pay practices; Taqueria Taconmadre targeted for wage violations

Local taquerias are known as one way of grabbing a quick bite to eat, but unfortunately many restaurants and taquerias are notorious for wage violations in Houston and nationwide.

Case in Point

Many Houstonians may recognize Taqueria Taconmadre as a local taqueria chain, but they have been targeted by the Labor Department for allegedly violating the Fair Labor Standards Act. Taqueria Taconmadre's three Houston locations have all been included in the wage and hour investigation, which alleges that employees regularly received less than minimum wage and were required to work overtime without the FLSA overtime rate.

The investigation claims that some workers worked up to 91 hours in a week, but were not compensated for time-and-a-half. Claims also include that Taconmadre also illegally garnished employees' wages for expenses like lost or broken items and uniform costs. Ernesto Enterprises Corp. and Jonathan Enterprises Corp., agreed to pay $275,706 in back wages to 72 of its current and former employees.

Servers, waiters, and tipped employees are frequently robbed of their wages because of employers who intentionally misclassify them or who arrange illegal tip pools. If you are a tipped employee in Texas, learn the wage laws that affect your paycheck and contact our experienced employment attorneys if you believe something in your check just doesn't add up.
