Houston restaurant cashiers, kitchen and wait staff not paid overtime - Houston Taqueria owes overtime

Waiters, servers and kitchen staff not paid overtime
Houston-based Taqueria de Jalisco owes overtime pay to employees: Wage investigation finds cashiers, kitchen and wait staffs are affected.

Restaurant employees are at a high risk of wage violations nationwide. Cashiers, kitchen and wait staff are frequently affected by FLSA violations, including illegal wage deductions, illegal tip-pools, and not being paid overtime. Many restaurant employees have no idea they are being robbed out of their wages.

Case in Point

Taqueria de Jalisco owes overtime pay to 63 current and former employees, including its Houston cashiers, kitchen and wait staff who were not paid their correct wages. An investigation found that the restaurant violated the FLSA at its three locations.

A labor investigation determined that Taqueria de Jalisco paid its employees salaries that fell below the federal minimum wage. The company also made illegal wage deductions from tipped employees' for lost items such as silverware. The employees who worked over 40 hours at the restaurant were not paid overtime at time-and-a-half and the restaurant's time and payroll records were not accurate.
