Houston employers not paying overtime - Low wage restaurant workers at risk of overtime violations

91-hour workweeks without overtime pay - are you at risk of pay violations?

The increase in wage and overtime lawsuits makes it clear that workers are being cheated by their employers every day.

We have mentioned before that the restaurant industry is rife with wage violations, and recent lawsuits point to the severity of violations, including employees who work up to 91 hours in a single week without receiving any overtime pay. Workers most at risk of this type of violation are low-wage workers in the restaurant industry.

Case in Point

63 Houston-area restaurant workers will receive a $250,000 settlement after a Department of Labor investigation revealed their employer allegedly violated federal wage and hour laws, including minimum wage, overtime and failure to maintain proper record-keeping.

The investigation found that low-wage restaurant workers were taken advantage of by employers, with many employees working 91 hours in a workweek without receiving overtime compensation. This is a violation of FLSA requirements for non-exempt employees.
