Boston pizzeria to pay back wages to employees for wage and hour violations

Award-winning Boston pizzeria excels at thin crust, but fails to pay employees their piece of the pie

Restaurants and food service establishments are notorious for violating federal wage and hour laws. Just because a company wins awards for its food doesn't mean they can rob employees of their hard-earned wages.

Case in Point

The Upper Crust Pizzeria in Salem, Massachusetts, had to answer to overtime violations in a lawsuit filed by employees. The pizza chain will pay over $80,000 in liquidated damages and back wages to 11 employees after a Department of Labor investigation.

The company allegedly did not pay overtime to employees and kept faulty records of employee work hours. This isn't the first time Upper Crust stores have faced overtime and wage investigations. In 2009, a separate investigation by the Department of Labor required The Upper Crust LLC to pay $341,545.53 in back wages to 121 employees in 10 restaurants.

Upper Crust has franchise locations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, including:

Beacon Hill, Beverly, Brookline, Comm Ave, Downtown, Fenway, Harvard Square, Hingham, Lexington, Newbury Street, Newburyport, Plymouth, Portsmouth - NH, Salem, South End, Waltham, Washington DC, Watertown, Wellesley & West Roxbury.
