Are Mani Pedi Businesses slave labor? California nail chain sued for overtime.

Are nail chains paying correct wagesAre Mani Pedi Businesses slave labor? California nail chain sued for 7-day workweeks without overtime.

California nail chain Natalie Salon is showing an unpolished side of their business after a class-action wage and hour lawsuit alleges that the nail salon employees were subjected to unfair labor practices.

Some of the alleged Fair Labor Standards Act violations include:

  • working 7 days a week without federally mandated overtime pay,
  • management routinely kept 20 percent of tips left for workers on credit card payments,
  • management didn't allow lunch breaks,
  • workers claim they were fined for small incidents, like breaking a nail polish bottle or failing to record that a foot bath was cleaned.
The salon employees, mostly Vietnamese immigrants, worked at Natalie Salon locations in San Mateo, Redwood City, Menlo Park, Palo Alto and Los Gatos.
